KDCI HISTORY

The idea of establishing a school, to expand the services aside from health care was first conceptualized by Dr. Thaddeus A. Evangelista in 1994 right after the acquisition of St. Joseph Hospital which was renamed Kidapawan Doctors Hospital, Inc. (KDHI). Since the focus of the Management was to increase the service capability of KDHI, creation of an educational institution was set aside. Fortunately, KDHI continued as a tertiary hospital in 2007. Then, a CT scan machine was acquired as well as the Digital X-ray Processor, which made KDHI the second Hospital in Mindanao to have such radiologic facility. Further, the new department was opened, the Renal Dialysis Unit (RDU) and the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Complex capable of man-aging extensive and complicated condition. The growth of the Hospital inspired the expansion to educational venture.

On March 9, 2012, KDHI was accredited as “Center of Quality” by Philippine Health In-surance Corporation (PHIC), sixteen (16) years after its foundation. Inspired by the said accreditation, the idea of establishing Kidapawan Doctors College, Inc., was revived. On April 2012 through the proposal of Mr. Bernard A. Gortina, the Quality Assurance Officer, together with Mr. Antonio S. Coliseo, Administrator and Mr. Sergio G. Bardos, the Human Resource Director during the regular KDHI Board of Directors’ meeting attended by the Chairman, Fr. Jessie Esparagoza, DCK; Vice Chairman, Dr. Wilfred Artes; President & CEO, Dr. Edwin Y. Gantuangco; Secretary, Dr. Elsa Khio; Treasurer, Dr. Mylene Cabriles; Director, Dr. Thaddeus A. Evangelista; Director, Dr. Pacholo Abellera; and Medical Director, Dr. Benilina O. Badilla. The said proposal was unanimously approved. Then, the detailed tasking for the establishment of KDCI started.

It was then that the KIDAPAWAN DOCTORS COLLEGE, INCORPORATED (KDCI) was founded. It was registered at the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 8, 2012 with Company Reg. No. CS 201229594. On the same month, a 5-storey building owned by Gillamac’s Marketing was acquired to become the KDCI’s school campus.

The Department of Health (DOH) is strict in imposing appropriate Pharmacists ratio in hospitals and there is an increasing demand for Pharmacist abroad. There is also a need to offer Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BS Psych). On technical and vocational training program, there is a great demand of skilled workers abroad and the school is preparing for skilled professionals to meet the demand of the K to 12 program of the Department of Education.
