The idea of establishing a school, to expand the services aside from health care was first conceptualized by Dr. Thaddeus A. Evangelista in 1994 right after the acquisition of St. Joseph Hospital which was renamed Kidapawan Doctors Hospital, Inc. (KDHI). Since the focus of the Management was to increase the service capability of KDHI, creation of an educational institution was set aside. Fortunately, KDHI continued as a tertiary hospital in 2007. Then, a CT scan machine was acquired as well as the Digital X-ray Processor, which made KDHI the second Hospital in Mindanao to have such radiologic facility. Further, the new department was opened, the Renal Dialysis Unit (RDU) and the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Complex capable of man-aging extensive and complicated condition. The growth of the Hospital inspired the expansion to educational venture.

On March 9, 2012, KDHI was accredited as “Center of Quality” by Philippine Health In-surance Corporation (PHIC), sixteen (16) years after its foundation. Inspired by the said accreditation, the idea of establishing Kidapawan Doctors College, Inc., was revived. On April 2012 through the proposal of Mr. Bernard A. Gortina, the Quality Assurance Officer, together with Mr. Antonio S. Coliseo, Administrator and Mr. Sergio G. Bardos, the Human Resource Director during the regular KDHI Board of Directors’ meeting attended by the Chairman, Fr. Jessie Esparagoza, DCK; Vice Chairman, Dr. Wilfred Artes; President & CEO, Dr. Edwin Y. Gantuangco; Secretary, Dr. Elsa Khio; Treasurer, Dr. Mylene Cabriles; Director, Dr. Thaddeus A. Evangelista; Director, Dr. Pacholo Abellera; and Medical Director, Dr. Benilina O. Badilla. The said proposal was unanimously approved. Then, the detailed tasking for the establishment of KDCI started.

It was then that the KIDAPAWAN DOCTORS COLLEGE, INCORPORATED (KDCI) was founded. It was registered at the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 8, 2012 with Company Reg. No. CS 201229594. On the same month, a 5-storey building owned by Gillamac’s Marketing was acquired to become the KDCI’s school campus.

KDCI’s Board of Trustees: Chairman /President & CEO, Edwin Y. Gantuangco, MD, FPCR; Corporate Secretary, Mr. Bernard A. Gortina, MN;Corporate Treasurer, Benelina O. Badilla MD; Trustees: Dr. Wilfred J. Artes; Fr. Alfredo P. Palomar, Jr., DCK and Thad-deus A. Evangelista, MD. Mr. Bernard A. Gortina, MN, the appointed VP for Administration and Planning, with the support of Mr. Antonio S. Coliseo, CPA, VP for Finance and Mr. Sergio G. Bardos, MN, the Human Resource Director, spearheaded the preparation of all the requirements in the full operation of the school.

KDCI, as an affiliate with the Kidapawan Doctors Hospital, Inc., a tertiary hospital ac-credited as “Center of Quality” by PHIC, provides quality education, and ensures great job and bright future to students. The initial courses offered are: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT), Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology (BSRT), Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BSPsych), Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm), and Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) two-year Pro-grams such as: Information Technology (IT), Computer Technology (CompTech) , Hotel Restaurant Services (HRS), with TESDA Qualifications such as Computer Hardware Servicing NC II, Housekeeping NC II, Bartending NC II, Health Care Services NC II, Commercial Cooking/Cookery NC II, Food & Beverage Services NC II, and Bread & Pastry NC II.

KDCI sees the need to offer these courses due to the following reasons : BS Medical Technology (BSMT) or Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) is not offered in any school in the provinces of North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Cotabato City, Maguindanao, and Davao del Sur; on BS Radiologic Technology (BSRT), there is an increasing shortage of Radiologic Technician in the Philippines and the increasing demand of Radiologic Technician abroad; on BS Pharmacy, there is a shortage of Pharmacists in the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) is strict in imposing appropriate Pharmacists ratio in hospitals and there is an increasing demand for Pharmacist abroad. There is also a need to offer Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BS Psych). On technical and vocational training program, there is a great demand of skilled workers abroad and the school is preparing for skilled professionals to meet the demand of the K to 12 program of the Department of Education.

The actual educational operation of KDCI was on the school year 2013-2014 with a total enrollees of 282 from the BS Radiology- 61, BS Pharmacy -95, BS Medical Technology-103, BS Psychology- 23, and Technical and Vocational two-year courses in Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Hospitality and Restaurant Services (HRS).

On the same school year, a bigger school campus site was purchased and a four-storey concrete building was constructed along Ninoy Aquino Avenue, Barangay Lanao, Kidapawan City. This was called the Main Campus, while the former school campus along Quezon Boulevard was named KDCI Annex building.

It was also in this school year that the lyrics of the KDCI HYMN was composed by Professor Paulino R. Agrave, head of the Research and Publication and the first musical arrangement was done by Mr. Lopercio Hordista.

On July 26, 2013, a Resolution No. 13-003 was resolved by the Board of Directors of KDCI and approved the application for the Basic Education- Preparatory, Primary, Elementary and High School. Hence, June 23, 2014 was the first operation of the Institution of the Basic Education with the total of 44 enrollees from Nursery, Kinder 1, Kinder 2, Grade 1 and Grade 7. Together with this expansion is the opening of Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management, Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Bachelor in Forensic Science, and Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
